In Honour of : Mrs Dilnavaz Variava
About the Tile Design: Mrs. Dilnavaz Variava, one of the first two women graduates from IIMA, took over the loss-making Bharat Floorings & Tiles in 1999 and rejuvenated it by reviving its heritage designs. She simultaneously worked honorarily on environment conservation, agroecology, nutrition and education for the poorest. Dilnavaz handed over the business to her son Firdaus in 2015. She believes in simplicity and that wealth should be used for others less privileged. As a flower does during the brief span of its life, one should bring joy to others. She encourages people in BFT to grow to their full potential and develop bonds of respect and affection for each other and the organization.
Symbolism: The simple flower, from bud to full bloom, reflects Dilnavaz’ commitment to constantly learning and growing and to simplicity. The intertwining stems reflect her belief in the interrelatedness of all living beings. Dilnavaz Loves Nature and has worked honorarily for its protection for 50 years. After her MBA from IIMA, she joined Voltas, was Director of Grindwell Norton Ltd and then CEO of World Wildlife Fund- India. She took over the loss-making Bharat Floorings in 1999 in order to save the jobs of those working there and to keep its iconic tile heritage alive. She formulated BFT Values as Quality, Integrity, Service and Innovation and is committed to excellence. After handing over the business to her son Firdaus, she gives much of her time to social causes. (She is President of Sarasvati Education Society, founded by her parents, which runs schools for 3800 poor children in Deolali, Nasik. She is the Founder and Managing Trustee of The Sahayak Trust which addresses nutrition deficiency by training hundreds of NGO partners on organic kitchen gardens for nutrition. In 2022-23 over 60,000 organic kitchen gardens were created by partners in 10 States.)
