A range re-created by chairperson Mrs. Dilnavaz Variava from the 1920s BFT Catalogue.
Their skill and care for quality make the artisans the true pillars of Bharat’s production. Each tile is handcrafted by a skilled artisan who has learnt his trade by working his way up from “begari” or unskilled labourer to a skilled pressman who must fill the colours in the right places in the stencils, remove the stencils with care, press the tiles with the right pressure and take the green and fragile tiles from press to rack without breaking them. If he has an eye for colour, he will find himself in the Ball Mill department, ensuring that each batch comes as close as possible to the desired shade. We honour them for their sincerity and their skill
Symbolism
The design is of inter-connectedness, though each tile also stands alone. There is a certain precision and complexity in the work, denoting the precision of science, but the flower binding together the design denotes the role of art and craft. The border shows the ups and downs that the company has faced over the past century. A river is both constant in a channel, yet ever flowing, like the flow of new artisans, but bound by the constant ideals of quality which they have held constant over the decades of the company’s life.
